The ten-minute walk that isn’t about steps
Forget the step count. Go outside, go slowly, and notice three things. It’s the whole idea behind 7 Days Outside.
By The TJD Editors · · 3 minute read

There is a version of walking that is all numbers: steps, pace, streaks, rings to close. That walking has its place. This isn’t it.
This walk is ten minutes long and has one rule: notice things.
How it goes
Step outside. A street counts, a parking lot counts, a balcony counts if that’s what today allows. Walk slower than you usually would. Leave the headphones off if you can, just this once.
Somewhere along the way, notice:
- one sound you’d normally tune out,
- one colour that surprises you,
- one smell, good or otherwise.
That’s it. You’re not training for anything. You’re just letting the outside world get a word in.
Why ten minutes
Because it fits. Long enough to feel like you went somewhere, short enough that you’ll actually do it on a gray Wednesday. Plenty of people find time outdoors leaves them feeling a little lighter; we can’t promise you will, but ten minutes is a cheap experiment.
Make it a week
This little walk is the heart of our first experiment, 7 Days Outside: ten minutes a day for one week, a quick note each day, and a look back at the end. Let’s see how you feel.
